I’ve always enjoyed writing...whether it involved putting my thoughts down on paper...or using my imagination in dreaming up characters, worlds, and stories.
In school, I excelled in English and served as co-editor of my high school newspaper. As a college freshman, an English professor asked permission to print one of my pieces in the school newspaper. While taking a science fiction literature class during my junior year, I opted to write a lengthy story for my semester project.
You’d think I’d have gotten a clue as to what I truly enjoyed, but I graduated from the UW-Eau Claire in 1979 with a major in biology and a minor in chemistry.
While living in the Minneapolis area, I worked in a greenhouse nursery, and when my first child was born, provided day care in our home for several children. Once my two daughters had grown older, I became employed as an assistant to the director of Sexual Assault Services and also served as a support counselor, as well as the Community Education Director for the SAS. After moving with my family to the Seattle area, I was hired as our church secretary, and later as an administrative assistant for a large company of car dealerships.
I still live in the Seattle area, and after experiencing singleness for several years, remarried in 2002. My husband, Sonny, works in manufacturing airplanes, and when it comes to writing, is my biggest cheerleader. The girls are all now twenty-something. My oldest daughter, Brooke, is an actress with a passion for musical theater. Her husband, Doug, is a District Manager for “Guitar Center”, combining his gift for business with his love of music. My youngest daughter, Ana, is pursuing a career in public relations and special event planning. Katrina, my stepdaughter works in human relations and her husband, Jon, is a computer programer. Sonny and I are blessed to have children who have grown up to be delightful people and our friends.
I grew up in the church and have always participated in activities and ministries. For the past twelve years, I’ve served on the contemporary worship team at my church as a pianist and vocalist. I also enjoy singing with the gospel choir and participating in Bible studies. In past years, I’ve played supportive roles in musical productions produced by the church’s drama ministry, and have been involved in youth ministry programs, including co-leading a teen drama group.
In my church, while working with the teen drama group, I began creatively writing again. I discovered putting words to paper fed a personal need that nothing else could.
A member of American Christian Fiction Writers (ACFW) since 2004, I currently meet with a small group of writers, members of ACFW, who meet twice a month to discuss the craft of writing, our current projects, and the publishing business.
As a free-lance writer, my work can be heard on “Heartbeat of the Home”. This radio ministry, broadcast on 20 stations across the United States, presents a spiritual lesson through gripping, poignant, and sometime humorous stories acted out for listening audiences. Each presentation concludes with a short...and gentle...teaching segment.
