Dear Dawn,
Your words spoke to my heart. My hubby's grandfather started a mission in the 30's in a storefront in a city in MI and his grandmother brought home-made bread and hot soup to the men who came because they had no place else to go. The worked continued and they moved several times. My father-in-law and uncle servied on the board until the late 80's, when my hubby was asked to and then he became the director. Under his leadership the Lord allowed the shelter to go from a 20 bed facility to a 160 bed facility, which included women and children, and families. I was involved in writing appeal letters to surrounding areas, and the Lord again blessed us bringing what was a 200,000 a year income; to a million dollar non-profit organization. I loved working with the people who came to our doors. It wasn't just people who were the considered the skid row bums at one time; they were professional ball players and business men down on their mis-fortune. We were able to have daily chapel and Bible as well as other classes for those who wanted to better themselves, rehab for those who were going through substance abuse and all the while caring people, like you and your hubby, helped in so many ways. I worked with the LAMB program, (Ladies Auxilary -Mentoring Brothers) and we had classes for everything, and fun activities and many things for the children. I think by giving your time to something that many people will never know what it is like, you are the one who receives the blessing. And families often make a monthly plan to do these things. The mission that was started back in the 30's helped a lot of people that came through the doors, and those people who stayed and were in a program, worked to keep the place spotless, so they could be proud of their home. I'm so happy for the experience you had and that you reached out to those who some people don't even talk to.... "You're the only Jesus Some People Will Ever See" is a song that brings tears to my eyes, when I think of it I see the faces of so many from years ago.

I read this book...it's a wonderful story. Besides that, I learned a lot I didn't know about post-Civil war life in the midwest. Great job, Ann!

Hi Patrica,

Thanks for stopping by. I appreciate your comments and encouraging words. You're right ... this business is not for those who aren't willing to go the distance, no matter how difficult it gets. Only those who love it will have the endurance to stick with it--whatever path they take, whether it be traditional or self-publishing.

Kudos for doing what you feel is right for you and taking the non-traditional route. I've been watching other authors take the plunge, and although self-publishing brings with it another set of challenges, it seems to work really well for some.

I hope your experience with self-publishing is amazing! Please keep me updated on how it's going for you!

May you be richly blessed! :)

Ouch! that does hurt. This writing business is not for those who give up easily. The Lord put those stories in your heart for a reason. And He will provide a way for you.

This year I had a similar result and have decided to jump the fence and publish my own through the e-book Amazon, route. I am excited, realize it won't be easy, but really, just which part of this writing life has been easy? : )

Praying for you that you would keep on the path the Lord has set you on.
Blessings and praying that your hope be fulfilled this year!

Thanks for visiting, Mickey, and sharing your thoughts and supportive words. We need to be there for each other, don't we? I truly believe that hope changes everything in our lives. It changes our perspective, attitudes, and willingness to keep trying. It also helps to keep us focused on the ultimate prize - eternal life in the presence of our Lord, where there will be no more striving. Just joy and peace.

It dazes us when we have an unexpected no, loss, exit or event (or even when an expected challenge materializes and we must face it). You are in the good company of Believers who keep dusting off sorrows, fears and disappointments, and who dig in for the wait that God can require. Offering 'Hope' as a focus is a beautiful, timely, strengthening reflection. Bless your heart.
